From Mission to First Mile

Every plank comes from something you already wrote. Nothing new to invent.

When. Session 13, Monday, March 8, Move 5, in the room. About four minutes for your mission and planks 1 to 4, from your Opportunity Map, your T-shirt card and last week’s conversation or door. Then the first mile, with your triad.

My mission the near bank · Charter §2.1, draft r2

I do _____________________ for ______________________ so that __________________

My T-shirt: ______________ · ______________ · ______________

1

For whom? your “for” blank · Opportunity Map rows

Circle the one row closest to the people your mission names.

A Children and teens

E Refugees and newcomers

B Young men and young adults

F Neighbors and neighborhoods

C Older adults, the sick and the dying

G Organizations that need what you know

D Men carrying heavy loads

H Men like us, in the church and next door

Now say it narrower: e.g. “widowers in our church,” “boys 12–15 in the Hill District”

2

My verbs your T-shirt · the Session 11 verb bank

Circle the family (or two) where your T-shirt verbs live. That is your column on the Map.

MAKE

build · create · repair · restore

GATHER

connect · host · convene · welcome

TEND

teach · mentor · listen · comfort

CARRY

serve · steward · accompany · deliver

3

What the door said last week’s conversation or door · a closed door counts too

Door or conversation

What they need

Energy: more or less?

My conversation or door:

more · less

Another door, if you knocked:

more · less

A T-shirt reaction that surprised me:

more · less

4

The square the Opportunity Map · where your row meets your column

Copy two or three candidates from your square, or one your door suggested. Keep only three yeses.

My experiment one piece of your Tuesday in 2031, pointed at your square

What I’ll try:

It serves _______________________ by letting me _______________________ (one of my verbs)

How I’ll know it’s working:

Starts on:

Our triad project one outing, about three hours · lay your three sentences side by side

Brother

For whom (row)

Verb family (column)

Me

PATH 1 · WE OVERLAP

Serve where our rows or columns meet. Pick a ◆ from that square, or a dated slot on the spring menu.

PATH 2 · THE BARN RAISING

No overlap? Each man keeps his own mission. Together we raise one brother’s barn first. Whose: ________

What: ____________________ For whom: ______________

Date: ____________ Convener (sends the first text): ______________

TWO TESTS BEFORE IT GOES ON THE CARD

The Tuesday test. Would your triad know what to ask you about next Tuesday?

The mission test. Read your mission sentence, then your project. Does the second sound like the first, at walking speed?
